Milan Fashion Week: Missoni F/W 09.10

Wow, Missoni really killed it with the layering, I love every look! And I especially love that Missoni designed a Fall/Winter collection for women who actually live in cold climates! The enormous scarves are so fun, especially when there are 2 or more layered around the models heads, necks, and bodies. The sweater tights paired with heels are a great combination to counter the bulky layers up top.

My favorite pieces from the collection are the delicate, spiderweby knit dresses, the cardigan/loooong scarf/fingerless glove combos, and everything in that beautiful shade of deep peach. Check out the whole collection at Style. What do you think?

Yves Saint Laurent Sale on Rue La La Tomorrow!

Thank you all for your well wishes, you're all so sweet! I'm still feeling pretty sick, I laid in bed most of today, but I just had to muster up the strength to let you all know that there is a YSL sale at Rue La La tomorrow (Friday) starting at 11am! The preview picture for the sale shows a bag, sunglasses, and most importantly, SHOES! How amazing would it be to get a pair of those babies on sale? Anyways, I'm sure by now most of you fashion gurus belong to Rue La La, but if you need an invitation just email me or leave a reply to this post with your email address, and I'll make sure to invite you before 11am tomorrow. The sale will go until March 2nd at 11am, but I'm sure it will sell out before then. Be sure to come back and tell me what you buy!

London Fashion Week: Ann-Sofie Back F/W 09.10

I'm sorry for the lack of posts in the past few days, I've been dealing with a bad head cold and all I can do lately is sleep and drink smoothies. It's not so bad, minus the sickness of course.

Anyways, I wanted to point everyone's attention to the Ann-Sofie Back F/W 09.10 show from London Fashion Week; Goth-Meets-Native American, an odd combo but it works here. I love the torn up tanks and dresses, as well as the shredded, falling apart skirts. The feathers are so fun too. My head is really clogged so I don't have too much insight, maybe I should just let the pictures do the talking? You can check out the whole collection here. What do you think?

Christian Siriano for Payless

Christian Siriano, the winner of season 4 of Project Runway, debuted his shoe collaboration with Payless at his NY Fashion Week runway show a few days ago. The shoes are slated for release in September 2009, and will be available at approximately 10% of Payless stores and online at Payless.com with prices ranging from $25-$45. The shoes, as well as his F/W 09.10 Ready-to-Wear clothing collection, were inspired by Egyptian landscapes:

Each of the five shoe styles - with creative names like Slither, Saunter, SheDevil, Sand Strap and Strut - feature Christian's unique chunky conical heel designed to look like an inverted pyramid. Handbags - the Shanbag tote and Sassafras clutch - coordinate with the footwear silhouettes: two ankle booties and three hidden platform pumps, with accents of pyramid studs and draped chains. Rich materials such as shiny dark brown snakeskin and Egyptian hieroglyphic teal fabric also echo Christian's Egyptian inspiration. (Examiner)
Above are pics of the shoes shown at Christian's runway show, so it is expected that these are the exact shoes that will be sold at Payless in September. What do you think of them? I am glad that Christian stuck to his aesthetic and wasn't bullied by Payless to create "safer" shoes - I really love these designs, but they're pretty out-there compared to the shoes you normally find at Payless. My favorites are the brown peep-toes with the chains in the top-right and the brown pumps with the chains and pyramid studs in the bottom-middle, and the brown ankle boots are a great staple piece for any shoe collection. I can't believe they'll be just $25-$45! September is much too far away.

Currently Craving: Free People Convertible Harem Pants + More

Chie Mihara Platform Boots
Silence & Noise Satellite Moto Vest
Dolce Vita Hamilton Open-Toe Boots
Free People Convertible Harem Pants

This Currently Craving was inspired by the Free People Convertible Harem pants that I need to complete my wardrobe. Everything else I would just use in addition to the Harem pants - the "leather" vest would look hot coupled with the Harem pants in their jumpsuit orientation, and either the Chie Mihara or Dolce Vita Hamilton boots would be perfect footwear to complete the ensemble. And did I mention that the incredibly versatile Harem pants are only $78? Yes, it's true. How often is such a covetable item actually affordable? You better believe that these are currently in my online shopping cart!

What I'm Wearing: DIY Alexander Wang Leggings

Tee: Hanes
Skirt: Forever 21
Leggings: very old, don't remember!
Boots: Nine West Cuzza
Jewelry: Random, Forever 21

I apologize for the horrible Photobooth-quality pictures, but we can just pretend that these pics are really artistic and antiqued or something, right?

Since I had no homework, I decided to sit around cutting up my clothes this afternoon. It was actually pretty productive, because I ended up with these Alexander Wang-esque leggings and a nicely fitting Hanes white tee. The leggings are far from perfect, I'll be the first to admit that, and even farther from resembling the Alexander Wang ones, but now I have a general idea of how to go about cutting leggings so I think I may try it on another pair sometime soon, with (hopefully) better results.

NY, I Love You: Erin Wasson x RVCA Fall 09 Presentation

Last night was the presentation of Erin Wasson's Fall 2009 collection with RVCA. Her spring collection has yet to be released in stores or online (the original release date was Feb. 1, but that has been pushed back several times now), but now at least we have pictures from another future collection to drool over. According to Fashionologie, the atmosphere of the presentation was very relaxed, complete with jello shots and sweaty dancing. Sound like the best fashion week party so far! It was attended by celebs ranging from Leighton Meester of Gossip Girls to Alexander Wang.

As for the clothes, they had the same off-duty-model, rock-chic, grimey '90s feel to them as her spring collection, but with several pieces in velvet and some really rad armwear mixed in. Standouts include a mesh tank (I think that's what it is, or maybe a body stocking?) paired with an oversized blazer and patchwork denim shorts, a leather romper (so cool!), and a beautiful lace fringe dress.
Also, the gorg shoes were designed by Tiffany Tuttle of LD Tuttle - I wonder if that includes Erin's leopard boots? Love them.

Backstage at Marc by Marc Jacobs F/W 09.10

Runway fashions you could actually see yourself wearing in the real world? Ya don't say. The Marc by Marc Jacobs F/W 09.10 show at New York Fashion Week was full of separates that will be flying off the racks next year, due to their immense wearability (is that a word?). There was even legit winter boots mixed in - no super-high heel, no crazy lacing or straps, just flat, waterproof, chic winter boots! Much better than your old Sorel's, don't you think?

However, my favorite part of looking through pictures from the show was the bags. Supple leather, functional designs, rich colors - they're everything you could want in an investment piece! Everyone is talking about the economy and how we need to be spending wisely, well, any of these bags would definitely be a wise investment! The designs are timeless, and I could see these bags looking just as chic 10 years from now!

Also of note are the accessories - I love the bow bracelet in the above picture, I wonder if that couldn't be a nice DIY project for a more talented individual than myself? Calling all Etsy designers! There was also adorable hats (that I could definitely see on Ms. Blair Waldorf), crazy tights paired with oversized wool socks, and scarves of different shapes and sizes.

This collection is very Marc Jacobs, and many people (at least on TFS) have argued that it is better than the Marc Jacobs main line show a few days ago. I think there is a place for both shows, as the lines are so different (and so differently priced!). I really loved the crazy neons and metallics of the Marc Jacobs show, but I can see myself actually saving up and buying more pieces from this Marc by Marc Jacobs show. What do you think? Do you prefer the Marc Jacobs F/W collection or this Marc by Marc Jacobs one? Any favorite pieces? Be sure to check out the entire collection at Style.com.

NY, I Love You: William Rast F/W 09.10

Ooh this is one of my favorite shows so far, courtesy of Justin Timberlake no less! I posted pictures of the entire William Rast F/W 09.10 collection on The Fashion Spot - just click it to check them out. Unfortunately they're low quality, hopefully high quality pics will surface soon!

The collection consisted of both womenswear and menswear, and presumably shoes from the upcoming William Rast shoe line.
I was really impressed by the styling of the whole show, and the whole
Americana rock 'n roll theme. I loved the jeans, which is really the main focus of William Rast. I would gladly incorporate any of the studded or patchwork jeans into my closet! But I was particularly blown away by the leather jackets (both womens and mens). Crazy studding and tons of zippers made basic black leather motorcycle jackets into wearable pieces of art. One has to wonder how inspired this collection was by the current William Rast model, Erin Wasson. I could see Erin wearing just about every piece from this collection.

Other standouts include the black vest (above), an off-white furry vest, and a fringed cowgirl-esque skirt (both below). What do you think of the collection? Too safe? Too overdone? Too celebrity-endorced (supposedly both Hilton sisters were at the show)?

NY, I Love You: Marc Jacobs F/W 09.10

Oh Marc, you've stolen my heart again with your gaudy, over-the-top, '80s clubbing-inspired runway collection last night at New York Fashion Week. Marc said that while designing this collection, he was "thinking about the good old days in New York, when getting dressed up was such a joy". He's definitely captured that joy in this collection! I love the colors - just because we're in a recession doesn't mean designers can only use black and white. It is so refreshing to see not just pops of color here and there, but an entire collection revolving around bright neons and shiny metallics. I can see many younger fashion-obsessed girls, like myself, saving paycheck after paycheck to be able to afford some of these pieces. And I definitely predict many of these looks filtering down to high street stores like Topshop and H&M (for those of us who may not be able to go a year eating only Ramen in order to afford that bright yellow cape below!). Check out the whole collection at Style, and a video of the show below - what do you think? Are you done with '80s-inspired looks, or do you think Marc has reinvisioned the decade in a fresh new way that is worthwhile?

NY, I Love You: Stærk F/W 09.10

Camilla Stærk is known for her dark and moody designs, but the F/W 09.10 collection by Stærk has an added sophistication about it that I love. I'm definitely feeling the mixture of sheer lace and mesh which feminize the masculine designs. Also, the aluminum floral brooches from Japanese designer Shinji Nakaba provide the perfect pop of shine on the black and white color scheme, and the leather gloves were so fun! The collection consisted of only 14 looks, but they were all flawless. Check out the whole collection here.

Sidebar: Am I wrong, or is that Fatima from America's Next Top Model (cycle 10) in that 2nd pic above? I loved her on that show, I really thought she should have won. I'm glad to see that she is still modeling, so few girls from that show can find work...

NY, I Love You: Alexander Wang F/W 09.10

You better believe there will be a giant crop of DIY leggings in this style across the blog-o-sphere in the coming weeks (if there isn't already!). Of course, I will be trying this on an old ratty pair of leggings I was about to throw out, why not have a little piece of Alexander Wang-inspired style in my wardrobe? I like this look way better than shredded up, hole-y tights.

Anyways, the Alexander Wang F/W 09.10 collection was not well-received on The Fashion Spot, although it seems to me to be what you would expect from Wang, a little less grungy than previous seasons (is that a bad thing?), and an overall solid, well-envisioned and coherent collection. I feel as though I'm in a very small minority when I say that I did not hate the biker shorts/knee-length leggings, especially in crocodile. It worked for me. I posted a few of my favorite looks below (click to enlarge). LOVE the leather jacket with the fox-fur fringe in the last pic... crazy and amazing. You can check out the whole collection here, and watch a video of the runway show below!

Currently Craving: Black + Zippers

Cool, Casual by Slow and Stead Wins the Race Mesh Sweatshirt
Daisy Marc Jacobs Perfume
Cocobelle Bahia Zip Thong Sandal
Alexander Wang Flare Zip Jeans
Deux Lux Backpack Messenger Bag
Giuseppe Zanotti for Balmain Swarovski Crystal Sandals

Well, today's Currently Craving has 2 themes: black and zippers. And I threw in that Marc Jacobs perfume because I love the look of the bottle in black, isn't it lovely? Another random thought - I wonder if those Alexander Wang jeans unzip into 2 separate pieces? If anyone has them or has tried them on, let me know! Because that would be unnecessary, but kind of awesome. Oh, and before you get too excited about the Zanotti/Balmain shoes (I know I was), I should warn you, they are $1,745. *Sigh*.

Mary-Kate in Interview - March 2009

I didn't plan to have two Mary-Kate Olsen posts in a row, but that's how things work out sometimes. And this picture is so lovely, I just had to share it with you all. Mary-Kate will be the cover girl for Interview Magazine's March 2009 issue, and is seen here wearing a stunning Balenciaga design. Here's just a little snippet from the article:

The Mary-Kate that most of us don't know is a very thoughtful, intelligent woman with a blistering sense of humor and an enterprise that makes even hard-working friends feel like they aren't doing enough with their days. She walks quietly into rooms and gives you her full attention when you talk to her. And you always leave kind of wishing you'd hugged her more. Lately, she's been focusing on acting, and won kudos for her delightful performance as a weed-smoking Phish fan in last year's love letter to New York in the '90s, The Wackness. She and her sister are also hard at work on their two clothing lines, the higher end The Row and the more contemporary Elizabeth & James (the latter named after their other two siblings), and they are launching both shoe and men's collections later this year. The two even teamed up to publish a book of interviews last fall called Influence (Razorbill), in which they interviewed other artists and designers who have inspired them.
You can read more of the article and check out a few more (equally lovely) pictures, as well as watch a behind-the-scenes video, at Interview Magazine. And of course, if you're interested, be sure to check out the March 2009 issue of Interview for more!

Elizabeth and James Spring 2009 Lookbook

Here are just a few images from the Elizabeth and James Spring 2009 Lookbook, and from what I've seen, I want pretty much the whole collection! As per usual, the Elizabeth and James Spring line (created by sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) consists of beautifully sculpted skirts, blazers, and shirts, along with unique and stunning pieces of jewelry. The collection perfectly blends masculine, architectural shapes with girly, flower-printed flowing skirts and dresses. If you can't already tell, I'm a fan. You can check out my favorite looks below, as well as the entire lookbook at the Elizabeth and James website. Let me know if you like what you see, and what your favorite/least favorite pieces are so far!

What do you think? Topshop Studded + Fringed Shoes

Granted, studs and fringe are not particularly new trends, but I think they'll be sticking around through the Spring, so it's not a horrible idea to invest in a fast-fashion version of it. These shoes are both by Topshop, the first is the Marley2 boot for $65, and the second is the Hugo Sandal for $44. I was leaning towards the sandals, because I like how the straps seem to overlap around the ankle, as well as both the studded toe and foot straps, but the boots have a certain charm as well. What do you think? Do you prefer the Marley2 boot, the Hugo sandal, both, or neither? Let me know, I love to hear the opinions of my readers!

More Prices for Erin Wasson x RVCA

So here's some good news and some bad news. The good news is that Who What Wear has found out the prices of more items from the Erin Wasson x RVCA line. The bad news is that the prices are still fairly expensive, AND the release date has been pushed back again - it's now said to be around mid-February. At least that gives us all more time to save up for that $175 bustier! Click here to check out the article from Who What Wear, they interview Erin and ask her how she would style each piece - it's pretty interesting! And click here to see the prices of some other items from the collection, Erin's favorite Zeppelin shirt and a hot pair of leather shorts.

What I'm Wearing: Spy vs. Six String Sales

Tee: Vintage, used to be my Dad's
Vest: Forever 21
Skirt: Forever 21
Boots: Colin Stuart (Victoria's Secret)
Jewelry: Forever 21, Urban Outfitters

Here's another look from this past weekend, I just hung out with some friends and kept it classy. I cannot wait for summer, my legs are way too pale to be shown off like this, it is painful to see such bright whiteness. I should have warned you all to put on sunglasses before reading this post! On a completely unrelated note, I am still desperately in love with these Colin Stuart studded boots. I can't imagine more perfect shoes (well, except maybe the designer version these are "inspired" by) - thank you BF! However, I am still dreaming of those Omelle's I posted about a few days ago - I must at least see those white architectural ones in person before I die! Maybe even try them on? Until then, I will continue to swoon...

What I'm Wearing: Shades of Grey

Sweater: Urban Outfitters
White Thermal: Splendid
Grey Tank: LA Made
Skirt: Victoria's Secret
Boots: Steve Madden
Necklace: Margo Morrison
Rings+Things: Forever 21, my BF

It went up to 50 degrees today, which is a heat wave for February in Ohio. So to celebrate, I wore a skirt with no tights or leggings! It felt so liberating. Of course, I still needed 3 layers up top and boots, but Spring isn't too far off!

Currently Craving: Leather and Alex Wang

A free afternoon led to this little collage of my current cravings. The theme seems to be leather and Wang, along with some sweet 501's that I would love to take the shredder to. And how fresh does that white leather jacket look? It would be perfect for the Spring, when it's still too cool to be bare-armed. Also, the incredible Wang bag that Mary-Kate is holding is not going to be released until July for $850, which is quite a large amount of money, but in the realm of designer bags it's fairly affordable. I better start playing the lottery...

On a different note, I'm so sorry about the comment situation, I didn't realize there were 10 new comments bc for some reason I wasn't being emailed by Blogger. I will be responding to your comments asap, and checking out all of your lovely blogs too if you have them!
