The city outside still sounds like it's on fire

This past Thursday was one of my favorite nights in NYC so far. I was invited to cover the launch party for the new Heineken red star bottle and I agreed, thinking I would drink a few free Heinekens and take a few pictures. It ended up being so much more amazing than I could've imagined!

Heineken shipped everyone across the East River to a "private location" which turned out to be the Brooklyn Navy Yard. We were treated to a red carpet, unlimited Heinekens and appetizers, appearances by Ashley Tisdale and Stacy Keibler, music by DJ Vice, and oh yes, a surprise concert by one of my favorite bands, fun.!! My head is still spinning over the whole experience. Fun. performed for about an hour, including their hits "We Are Young", "Carry On", "Some Nights", and "Stars". Thank you Heineken, and thank you fun.!!

Soho

I spent yesterday morning in Soho, a dangerous exercise for a shopaholic like myself. It started out innocently enough, wandering up and down the streets, taking pictures of the gorgeous storefronts and buildings...

Then I stumble on Balthazar. Oooo Balthazar. I've never had anything from Balthazar before.
Two almond croissants please!

I keep wandering, and now that I'm on a sugar high Broadway is really starting to stress me out!
Dodging the tourists and aggressive neighborhood natives, I duck on to a side street.
That's when I see it - Opening Ceremony.

Hours pass on both sides of the store (the mens side has these awesome stairs leading up to it) and
I lose all sense of sanity, eventually leaving with a big bag containing the ridiculously overpriced
sweatshirt pictured below. I blame the almond croissants.

Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!

Fated to pretend

Forever 21 jacket; H&M tee; Free People paisley corduroys; Frye boots; Jacobs by Marc Jacobs bag

Thanks to everybody who entered the Skincare by Alana giveaway last week! The lucky winner was chosen using a random number generator, and that winner is... Morgan from The Treasure Trove! Congrats Morgan!

Yesterday was one of the few days the BF and I both had off of work, so we spent it overdrinking at our favorite brunch place in Long Island City (never-ending mimosas!) and walking all the way from L.I.C. through Greenpoint and Williamsburg. Good day -- we stumbled on a ton of cute little neighborhoods, and I got to break in my new-to-me Frye's. Gotta love a pair of boots that can stand up to 3+ miles of city walking.

The end of the world

Thrifted sweater; H&M tee; Hue leggings; Sperry shoes
Jacobs by Marc Jacobs tote; Burberry sunglasses

I love this location. It's overgrown, abandoned-looking, and while wandering around you almost forget that you're in NYC -- then you look across the river. That view! What I wouldn't give to wake up every morning to that endless skyline. Oh Williamsburg, why do you taunt me so.

Calm before the storm

Just wanted to do a quick post before the power outages and chaos that is supposedly on the way with hurricane Sandy. I hope all of my east coast followers stay safe in the storm - fingers crossed it's all hype!

These pictures take me back to a simpler time, a few days ago when I was wandering around Central Park with my boyfriend and a pumpkin spice latte - my two favorite things! I love the park when the leaves start changing colors and falling to the ground, Fall is the most beautiful time to be in the city.

Long Island City

American Apparel raglan; Gap jeans; Jacobs by Marc Jacobs (etc. etc.) bag;
Minnetonka moccasins; Burberry sunglasses

Back from another long blog break, and it's a whole new season! Leaves are changing colors, there's a chill in the air, and my diet consists solely of pumpkin-flavored foods... it must be Fall!

Righteous

First off, I have to give a huge thank you to Mimi, Liesbeth, and Luna for commenting on my last blog post - I know I've been a horrible blogger and it means so much to me that you guys have stuck around and still follow my posts. Thank you!

This pic was taken during the 4th of July weekend while wandering around Williamsburg with my boyfriend. As mentioned in my last post, it has been ridiculously hot in the city, so these pants have become another clothing staple. When I found them on the clearance rack at Free People I knew they had to be mine, despite the fact that they were about a foot too long. After a quick (semi-sloppy) hacking job at home, they're now the perfect fit!

So This Is The New Year

Happy 2012 dear readers! I'm writing this post on the long train ride back to NYC, looking out the window at a sea of white snow and reminiscing about the holidays. I hope you're all doing well, and I wish you all the best in the new year!

Here are just a few pictures from the past few weeks in Manhattan and Rochester - lots of Christmas lights, early new years parties (with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots!), and merry-go-round rides with my niece. How did you celebrate the holidays?

Holidaze

Forever 21 jacket (similar one here); Urban Outfitters sweater; Mavi Serena jeans; Balenciaga bag

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I'm finding it more than a little difficult to get back into my old routine after going home for the holiday - all I want to do is run around with my niece and watch movies in bed late at night. Luckily, the beautiful weather (it was 70 degrees yesterday!) and the ever growing number of Christmas decorations and events around the city are helping to break me out of my slump. I love this time of the year, especially when it isn't accompanied with a foot of snow!

I'm Still Here!

Missoni for Target kids sweater; Current/Elliott jeans; Ugg boots; Burberry sunglasses

Hi guys! I'm still in NYC, yay! I found an apartment on the UWS and moved in about two weeks ago (Zabar's Zombies!). I went from a furnished sublet to an unfurnished apartment, and I've been devoting all of my free time to finding furniture and trying to make this new place my home. I would love any tips on where to look for cute and cheap housewares!

Also, I've been interning at Lovelyish, the Xanga fashion and pop culture blog. I write eight to ten articles per week for them, and it's definitely the most fun I've ever had in an internship! I'm also toying with the idea of applying for grad school next year, but that's still very much up in the air...

So what have you all been up to? I miss you guys! I just got internet installed in my new place so I have plans to spend much of this weekend reading all of your blogs and catching up on your lives!

L.I.C.

The race to find a new apartment is on! I only have 6 days until I have to move out of my current sublet so I'm getting a little frantic about finding a new housing arrangement. I probably should've settled on something weeks ago, but I've discovered I'm a very picky house hunter...

One of the places I would *love* to live is Long Island City. The BF and I visited the other weekend and took 10000 pictures of the view - it is incredible. We also had a delicious brunch with never ending mimosas which definitely helped us have an amazing time! I hope this post isn't too picture-heavy, I am kind of obsessed with the New York skyline!

And.... without further ado, the winner of the $100 Shopbop gift card is Lin of Raw by Yours! Congrats Lin! Be sure to come back and let me know what you buy!

Irene

WISH blouse; Current/Elliott jeans; Marc Jacobs rainboots; Vintage necklace; Burberry sunglasses

Hey East Coast-ers, how are you guys doing after Hurricane Irene? Manhattan managed to get by with very little damage, but I know other places got it much worse than us. I hope you're all ok!

I took these pictures on Sunday afternoon when we were still getting giant gusts of wind from the hurricane. It was pretty intense down on the Hudson River, the waves were bigger than I've ever seen them! There was also a few tree branches that had fallen down, but all-in-all the Upper West Side escaped pretty much unscathed. The question now is, what am I going to do with all of these flashlights and gallons of water I've stockpiled?

I also want to draw your attention to the shirt I'm wearing - it's the Sevier Blouse from WISH's summer collection titled
"Smokey Shadows". WISH is an Australian brand that has been around for 10 years, but only recently came to the US. If you're like me and you love beautifully designed bohemian pieces, be sure to check out the WISH website!

Working for the weekend

LC Lauren Conrad for Kohls dress; Burberry sunglasses

Hi guys - I'm still alive! I'm a bad blogger, yadda yadda yadda, but I do apologize for neglecting you all. I just started an internship at Lovelyish (which has been nothing short of lovely!) and I'm spending every other minute trying to find a job. So far, I've been unsuccessful... if you all have any suggestions for places to look for work, I'd love to hear them!

Despite my troubles with finding work, I still love New York! I can't blame this city, I couldn't when it is so beautiful. Just check out this sunset from Riverside Park!

Manhattan

'He adored New York City. He idolized it all out of proportion' - no, make that,
'He romanticized it all out of proportion'.

I <3 NY

I just got home a few days ago and I'm already planning my next trip to NY! I'd love to see the city covered in a sheet of fresh white snow - that just sounds so romantic! Ah, I need you real New York-ers out there to snap me out of this sentimental haze! But for now, I'm off to watch Manhattan for the millionth time...
