Transitional dressing

It might be a little early to call this a "transitional" season, but after a stretch of 90 degree days the 60s and 70s feel pretty close to freezing. I actually brought some of my sweaters out of hiding this past week - yes I know, I'm weak. Maybe I should move down south?

Anyhow, the Fall lookbooks are starting to drop and I'm welcoming the outfit inspiration - why wait until September to wear woolly socks and scarves when you're cold now? I'm sure I'll be eating those words once the dog days of summer set in.

How do you guys dress for these awkward, not-too-warm, not-too-cool days between summer and fall?

This growing old is getting old

Add me to the list of bloggers who wish they were at Coachella right now. Did you hear R. Kelly popped up on stage with Phoenix? And Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were spotted drinking out of the same gatorade bottle (they're still together??). I need to get off the #Coachella hashtag, it's killing me! Anyhow, at least if I ever magically end up at the festival while I'm still young enough to wear cutoffs, I have my entire wardrobe planned out, starting with these two looks.

Standing in Brooklyn just waiting for something to happen

Happy New Year everybody! Hope you all partied hard and broke your resolutions by January 2nd!

Even though it's a new year, I've been feeling a sense of monotony lately -- maybe the better word to describe it is "stuck-ness". Been working the same job for a year, living in the same apartment in the same city for two years, and I guess I'm getting that itch for change. Do any of you guys also experience this? How do you cope?

These photos are from the January 2013 Free People catalog, which was shot in Amsterdam. They're definitely giving me the itch to travel, I don't even care where to -- who's with me?

Fated to pretend

Forever 21 jacket; H&M tee; Free People paisley corduroys; Frye boots; Jacobs by Marc Jacobs bag

Thanks to everybody who entered the Skincare by Alana giveaway last week! The lucky winner was chosen using a random number generator, and that winner is... Morgan from The Treasure Trove! Congrats Morgan!

Yesterday was one of the few days the BF and I both had off of work, so we spent it overdrinking at our favorite brunch place in Long Island City (never-ending mimosas!) and walking all the way from L.I.C. through Greenpoint and Williamsburg. Good day -- we stumbled on a ton of cute little neighborhoods, and I got to break in my new-to-me Frye's. Gotta love a pair of boots that can stand up to 3+ miles of city walking.

Ice queen

I'm a bit of a Free People catalog addict, especially when it comes to their holiday catalogs. I wish I could climb into the winter wonderland styled pages and spend all season wrapped up in Free People sweaters, riding a horse through a snow-covered field. Probably not a likely scenario to have happen while living in the city...

Luckily this week I'm upstate spending Thanksgiving with my family, so at least the whole snow-covered-landscape dream is exponentially more likely! All I want for the holidays is (even more) snow!

Currently Craving: Going Rogue

Currently craving: shoes far outside my budget (#sob). So lust-worthy though, and so perfect to wear while driving down a dusty road in the middle of nowhere, with no schedule and nothing to do. That sounds like heaven to me right now.

Righteous

Erin Wasson x RVCA tank; Free People pants; Burberry sunglasses

First off, I have to give a huge thank you to Mimi, Liesbeth, and Luna for commenting on my last blog post - I know I've been a horrible blogger and it means so much to me that you guys have stuck around and still follow my posts. Thank you!

This pic was taken during the 4th of July weekend while wandering around Williamsburg with my boyfriend. As mentioned in my last post, it has been ridiculously hot in the city, so these pants have become another clothing staple. When I found them on the clearance rack at Free People I knew they had to be mine, despite the fact that they were about a foot too long. After a quick (semi-sloppy) hacking job at home, they're now the perfect fit!

Currently Craving: Lazy Suit

The ultimate lazy day outfit, complete with elastic-waist pants and a droopy cardigan. Perfect for watching movies in the afternoon with a giant cup of coffee, eating one of these bad boys (a recipe even I couldn't mess up!
). Add a cozy blanket (still searching for this Missoni throw) and a turband (no hairwashing necessary), and that's my formula for the perfect lazy day!

PS - I'd be lying if I said this post wasn't inspired by Lazysuits, the most ridiculous invention in the world that I still might actually want...

PPS - Check out my Guest Editor post for The Closet by eDrop-Off - it involves Chanel and Moschino!

The Roarin' Twenties

I always love the Free People catalogs, but their November 2011 "Through The Decades" issue takes the cake. These pics are from my favorite chapter, the 1920's, inspired by Paris, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and jazz, but be sure to check out the 1970's as well - so much to drool over!

Time Out

Nally & Millie tank; Free People shorts; Jeffrey Campbell Nation boots; Diane von Furstenberg sunglasses;
Balenciaga bag; Vintage necklace and belt

Summer is definitely here! How are my fellow New Yorkers dealing with this insane heat? It's supposed to hit 103 degrees tomorrow, and I have no plans for leaving my air conditioned apartment! I can use the time out though, I've been running around like crazy these past few days. I saw Questlove DJ at a party in the Lower East Side, thrifted in Brooklyn, ate a burrito from the Korilla BBQ truck for the first time (delicious!), and almost got conned into a creepy psych study at Columbia University (they wanted to give me tranquilizers mixed with alcohol... um, no thanks). So a few days off is sounding nice right about now!

This tank top is courtesy of Nally & Millie and is the most comfortable thing ever, especially when it's so very hot out.
Nally & Millie's current collection of cotton tees are flowing, drapy, and loose, just how I like them! Be sure to check out the Nally & Millie Facebook and follow them on Twitter!

Festival High

I'm not entirely sold on "flatforms" but these ones by Jeffrey Campbell have me wanting to
at least try on a pair. They do seem comfortable, right? Definitely the kind of shoes you could slop around in all summer without killing your feet too badly. But what do you all think about flatforms - awesome or awful? Have I just been so overexposed to them that I've lost my mind?

PS - Happy Easter to those who celebrate it!

Currently Craving: Jackie Ohh

I think I need a new pair of sunglasses. I have classic Ray Ban wayfarers and square-lens Burberry's, but I'm really craving a vintage-inspired pair like the ones above. I love the shape of the lenses and the two-tone color gradient - the only problem is choosing which color gradient! They come in violet too, which I'm also kinda loving.

Are you craving new sunglasses as it gets closer to Summer? What style of sunglasses is your favorite?

My Name Necklace

Free People dress (available at Shopbop and Karmaloop); MyNameNecklace.com "Ashley" necklace;
Hue tights; Jeffrey Campbell Litas from
Solestruck
; Vintage Levi's denim jacket

I've always been a huge fan of Carrie Bradshaw's "Carrie" necklace on Sex and the City, so when I was contacted by MyNameNecklace.com to review a name necklace of my own, I was ecstatic! I chose the sterling silver name necklace with a chain length of 18" - the necklaces also come in 18k gold plated, 14k gold, and white gold, with lengths of 14", 16", 18", 20", and 22", and are custom made to order. I've already worn mine just about every day since I received it! I love the length, it's perfect to layer with other necklaces or just wear on its own, and it's a great conversation piece - a few people have already asked me where I got it from. The necklaces are affordable too, so if you've ever wanted to have your own "Carrie" necklace be sure to check out MyNameNecklace.com!
