About Elizabeth and James

Hollywood's most powerful twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, have been entertainers and marketers since their infancy and have expanded their empire under the company they own and for which they design, Dualstar Entertainment Group. Known for their own stylish (and to some, over-the-top) looks, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen launched the Elizabeth and James, a contemporary collection inspired by their own personal wardrobes, in the fall of 2007. The line is all about blending different elements, mixing uptown and downtown elements with traditional styles. The women's line is a mix of masculine and feminine styles, while the menswear is created using traditional masculine silhouettes and luxurious fabrics. The brand now encompasses women's wear, menswear, women's shoes and jewelry.

Inspire Me: MKA

Just a few of my favorite Mary-Kate and Ashley looks. They've mastered the I-just-rolled-out-of-bed-and-threw-on-whatever-I-saw-first look like nobody else! And I'm not sure if I should ask this (don't wanna start a war!), but throughout the years, whose style have you preferred? The generally more crisper and cleaner Ashley, or the boho, relaxed MK? And which twin do you dress most like? I've definitely always been a Mary-Kate girl - I love her free spirited approach to clothes - but I think I personally dress more like Ashley. How about you? I can't wait to hear your responses!

September Issues: Ashley Olsen in Marie Claire

"I think you're either born with a sense of style or you're not," Ashley says in her small, soft voice, giving her knuckles a loud crack. "Either you care or you don't. And we"—she and Mary-Kate—"love fashion. When we were going to NYU, I think that was the first time we were aware of the power of our personal style. Not the power of it, but the result of it. Between the big sunglasses and the Starbucks cup and the big sweaters, the hobo-chic thing, we were more shocked than anything"—by the endless commentary and tabloid coverage. "I get it; we were fortunate enough to have really nice clothes, and we put them together in this raggedy way. My mom wears glasses this big"—she mimes massive goggles—"from the '70s, and you wonder where we got it from?" She laughs. "The dark eyeliner, the scarf around the head—it's just so interesting and natural." Her family, she says, was "very bohemian."

"Mary-Kate and I are very aware of trends and style, but at the end of the day, we don't even think twice about it. It's just, What do I feel like wearing today, and how do I want to put it together?"

The Other Face of Ashley Olsen

Work it! Ashley Olsen posed for the camera and chatted with Marc Jacobs for the latest issue of V MAN - check out just a few quotes from the interview below:

On doing a "celebrity line": "The way I look at it, I had a career as a child. I had a career in an industry in which the media kind of... they're obsessed with the young girl thing. But when I turned 18, I moved to New York, and I haven't really done anything to be a celebrity. I've been transitioning from acting as a kid to doing something that I'm choosing for myself - to be a part of the fashion industry... the outside perception is very different because you do have celebrity brands, people like Jessica Simpson and Kimora Lee Simmons, and those are celebrity brands because they have their names on them."

On working with Mary-Kate: "The Row is really something that I'm doing while my sister still wants to focus on acting. She's my partner in The Row, but she trusts me with the every day. I mean, I see her like ten times a day."

On being different from her twin sister: "When I was 14, 15, 16, 17, it was harder because the two of us were still very similar. We had to work through what's special about us, and then the media had to work through it... I've never been one to engage the media to say that I'm different. I actually did the opposite and I totally went internal. I was like, "See y'all!" I want to be behind the scenes, and I don't want people to know anything about my personal life. I have a job, I take it very seriously, and I work really hard."
