R.I.P. U.G.G.

Thrifted sweater; Hue leggings; Ugg Australia boots

Uggs are a divisive boot - you either love 'em or hate 'em. As an Upstate New Yorker who has to endure around 6 months of ice, slush, and snow every year, I am an Ugg-lover. That's why I was so upset the other day when I discovered a hole in the toe of my trusty old boots. What should I do now? The first snow of the year is scheduled for later this week and I don't know if I should buy another pair of Uggs or try to find a different, less-comfortable-but-more-stylish winter boot? What shoes do you all wear through the slush and ice of winter? Or are you lucky enough to live where there is no snow (and if so, can I come visit you this winter?)

PS - I want to thank Monica of Vantage Point Vintage for featuring me as one of her "Girls Who Get It" - thanks Monica!

the original yellow timberland boots :D perfect for any type of cold weather, maybe not as soft as UGG botts (which I really don't like :p), but still great.

i am going to paris tomorrow and bringing short black uggs with buttons on the side i just bought at NM.
perfect for tired feet and some who wears stilettos 6 days a week all day.
and if jimmy choo can sell $900 adornished uggs this season, i feel like mine were a bargain and
i think i rock them. :)
yes, they work for you too as a nice sneaker alternative.

uggs or sneakers in paris?
i am going with uggs.
check out me with my uggs on my blog.
i did a vlog with bears and chauss with uggs and let me know if what u think.

I am all for all uggs... I live in Michigan so I completely understand the need for them. They're unacceptable during the summer but necessary during the winter - sorry haters. :)

I live in Atlanta - come on down! haha We might get snow - might, but everything will shut down anyway! lol So I don't even have to bother with warm etc but I do need a nice pair of boots for all the damn rain lol

Oh UGGS.. that's all I can say! I have to say I don't personally like the look of them but (secretly: I have tried them on and they're comfy as heck! But SSHH that's a secret!) One word, following! I would love if you would follow me also!

Love from,

Like I just tweeted at you, I love my Uggs! They're one of the only pairs of shoes I've found that keep my feet from freezing and going numb in the winter. I'd definitely suggest buying another pair. I have a more stylish pair of winter boots that work well, too, but they aren't as versatile as my good ol' Uggs!

I'd say go for a pair of tall leather boots!

I say replace the Uggs. I live in Cali with no snow and I love them, but mine have taken quite the beating in the year I have had them. I suppose soon I will have to replace them as well sigh.

I love UGGs. True they are not the most stylish of boots, but they keep your feet warm. I've had Uggs all my life (being Australian), and without them I would probably not survive here in France. Great blog!!! xxx

You can go for the UGGs, I know they're the only ones that keep me warm in the cold winters we experience, but I have to say I like the tip from the 1st comment, with the original yellow Timperland boots. :)

i had a hole in mine in the exact same spot- luckily my parents are doctors so got them sewed up (v small exact stitches with surgical thread), resprayed them and they're good as new!
not sure if they'd be able to handle new york slush, but they're fine with welsh countryside puddles!

I just took my Uggs out of the closet to wear yesterday! So this post is completely perfect. I am still an Uggs fan when the time is right. Even though they are not the most elegant shoe, they are comfy and keep me warm on lazy winter days.

I don't consider uggs a style thing, it's a comfort thing :) I live in my hunter boots with a fur wellie sock during winter!

Agree with Chelsea, i view uggs certainly not a style-thing but comfort. I suggest you buy a new pair of uggs. ^_^ I love your dress its so carefree and comfortable.

Soms say that Ugg boots are not fashionable, but they are (without a doubt) the only boots that keep me warm throughout winter!!! I suggest to buy a new pair of Uggs. You won't regret it!

LOL! Come over to Kuwait!
There's never snow here!
During our 2 or 3 months of winter the temperature barely goes under 10 Celsius! I hate the fact that I only get to wear my uggs for a few weeks and then thats it.. NO winter for the rest of the year! And we rarely get rain here. Actually, last year we only got 2 days of rain. And the weather nowadays just started turning cold!
You should get hunter boots, I heard they're good!

I personally am on the love side of the ugg debate. If I were you I wouldn't get uggs again though. They're SO expensive. I own a pair of BearPaws. They look just like Uggs, come in all the same colors and heights, but they're like 1/2 the price. I think I got mine at shoe carnival a few years ago for only $35! You can get bearpaws in a lot of places. PLUS THEY ACTUALLY HAVE GRIP ON THE SOLES! I live in Iowa so I know how much slipping around in the ice, snow, and worst of all slush, can be and the day I wore my friends uggs, I fell flat on my butt cuz there's no grip on them. I live in my bearpaws in the winter :)

I hope this helps!

UGGS are soooo expensive, get some other ones!
I hate UGGS, BUT I live in cold Germany, and no other boots held my feet warm enough in snow...so for preventing my feet to freeze to death, I wear them. So I guess, they are O-K...

bisous,
mia

PS: I prefer them in black

Hannie said...

I have one pair of fake UGGS with floral print and they are great. Sometimes you pay only for brand, you know :D Anyway, I love this look!

Unfortunately I, too, live somewhere cold and snowy. In fact, it is snowing right now and I don't have the right boots. But I'm trying to track down a pair of suede lace-ups with shearling and a wedge, so that I can wear them to drive and walk around when it's snowy and icy in Zurich!

Tamara said...

I had ones lot of time ago, and they are definitely the warmest shoes ever. And comfortable, like walking barefoot...

i cannot live without my uggs. In fact I have a couple pairs from when they first came out but they are WORN. I mean WORN WORN WORN and almost have holes in the soles. I know that they may not be in fashion or the cutest boot but I am going for WARM so I will have UGGS for a very long time. Other boots make my toes feel like they are freezing off and not all boots feel like slippers like UGGS do. :)gina

I'm sad to admit that I hate to love Uggs. I'm up here in Boston, and in the winter there is no substitute for them when running out to the store or Sunday coffee. I'd be pretty damn sad if my Uggs got a hole! Go get yourself another paid and to heck with everyone else.

Nickie Frye said...

There is NO WAY I could live where it snows. Practical clothing is not in my vocabulary. That said, I never have had a pair of Uggs. They don't actually seem that practical to me b/c I wouldn't want to get the suede wet with rain or snow. Doesn't the moisture soak through & stain them? Obviously I have no idea about this stuff so I shouldn't offer any advice other than this: California is nice this time of year. ;) xoxo

Ria said...

Say no to the ugg lol. How do they even stand up during the snow and ice, don't they just get wet?

Getting a hole in you uggs, man-o-man you wore them to death. I would try hunter rain boots and buy the matching socks or frye boots, they will both last you a long time
