And now for some biased reporting on Balmain F/W 09.10

I am shamelessly obsessed with both Decarnin's Balmain and Erin Wasson, so when you put the two together I can barely contain my shrieks. The Balmain F/W 09.10 collection, while sticking closely to the Decarnin formula of recent years, is so fantastic in its design and execution. The over-emphasized shoulders, the quilted leather, the sequins, the studs - it teeters towards being over-the-top, and ends up falling somewhere between chic and gaudy. Which I mean as a compliment, really!

The dresses are all stunning, similar to last seasons but why mess with perfection? Also, I predict that we'll see similar emphasized-shoulder blazers on many fashionistas come Fall/Winter 2009. And the slit-front harem pants... well, those may be a miss, one of few in this collection of hits! Unfortunately, Balmain is insanely priced, but honestly I'd sell a few unnecessary organs for a Balmain dress or two!

Ok, so after that love-fest I may need you all to bring me down to earth. What do you think of the collection (view the whole show here)? Too same-old, same-old? Too over-the-top? Or are you swooning just like I am? Let me know!

I agree with you. It's certainly not groundbreaking (which may disappoint most), but it's still beautiful and chic and covet-worthy. I love it, and also think selling a few unneeded organs is feasible. Between the two of us, we could definitely afford a minidress, at least!

I say if its not broken, don't fix it. especially if its 16,000 dollar sequined balmain mini dresses.

I take the photos with a self timer most of the time. Thanks for the compliment!

You know, it's beautiful of course, but how incredibly disappointing to see nothing new. I was so excited, then so let down.

Love seeing the rock star models walk though.

haha, I opened the window to the show on vogue and I was like aww it looks just like last season! But it was still a beautiful show to look through =) I think Balmain needs to work with Target to create cute cheap sequined dresses =)

Thanks for your comments on my blog. The Wang-inspired boots are actually very comfortable, I think the 1" platform makes them super easy to walk in. The one downfall is that because they are PU and not leather, my feet don't breathe as well. Overall, I'd recommend buying them if you like them, as they're so affordable.

I enjoyed the clothes but I think Decarnin's going to have to start doing something new or else Balmain will fall off the radar. There's nothing worse than a designer who's become predictable. I spoke to a girl yesterday (wearing a current season Balmain jacket) who joked that she would just remove the sequins from her jacket and voila - FW 09!

I did love the Balenciaga show though!

Thanks for the comments all! I agree, it is very similar to last season, but I absolutely loved last season so the more the merrier in my opinion! But you are all helping me get a more well-rounded perspective on this collection (bc honestly I'm a Balmain-aholic, so your insight is necessary to help me see straight!)

I really like this collection! It's very sexy, futuristic, rocker, and it works if you're young and have a smoking body lol.

It is a bit samey - but I loved it!! It works, there's enough difference and I WANT that silver dress.

I love the details, although I'm not so sure about the big shoulders--I have fairly broad shoulders and I doubt it'll be a flattering look. :(

Love this post.
It isn't all that different from past collections but there were some real one-off pieces
